About Rockland Review News

Rockland Review News is an independent digital newspaper covering Community, Government, Business, Events and Rockland. It happens on a Tuesday evening in a room holding fourteen people, and by the time a tax bill lands the decision is eighteen months old. It is part of VUGA Network, a group of independent digital publications published in the United States.

How We Work

This paper is built on profiles and on attendance. Reporters go to the meeting, read the packet beforehand, and write about the households affected by whatever passed — a story about a sewer assessment begins with the family paying it. Press releases are not published as articles, endorsements are not for sale, and sources are quoted accurately, including the ones who wish they had said less.

What We Cover

Community reports the parts of Rockland that run on volunteer hours: school districts and parent groups, fire companies and ambulance corps, libraries, houses of worship, food pantries and youth sports, built around named residents in specific towns, with follow-ups once the fundraiser is over. Government covers town boards, village trustees, the county legislature and planning bodies — budgets, tax levies, zoning changes, contracts — stating what passed, on whose vote, and what it costs a household. Business profiles storefronts along Route 59, Main Street in Nyack and the industrial parks between them, including the permitting and parking questions deciding whether a storefront stays occupied. Events covers street fairs, summer concerts, firehouse fundraisers, farmers markets and high school games, with date, location, admission and whether rain cancels. Rockland News carries the county's running record, and Business News follows development applications, warehouse and housing construction, and who benefits from a tax abatement — and what that arrangement costs the districts absorbing it.

When the paper gets something wrong, the correction runs where the error ran.
